Ancillary Task - Digipak Research

Before designing the initial digipak, I decided to research into existing digipaks for bands that were remotely similar to the one in which we are promoting.
The Hoosiers - The Trick To Life
I like the design used in this image and thought the colours contrasted well with one another. However, I didnt understand certain elements of the design and found it confusing. One of these features that I found confusing was that their appeared to be some kind of eyes everywhere throughout the CD cover. I did not quite understand why they were here, and what reference they had to the band or the CD/song.

Kings of Leon - Only By The Night
When first looking at this image, I was instantly drawn to it due to its individuality and uniqueness. The contrast of the colours made the image stand out and I wanted to look deeper into it to find out more about it.
However, I found the text to be too small and do not think it related well to the image itself.Arctic Monkeys - I Bet You Look Good On the Dancefloor
When I first looked at this, the first thing I noticed was how young the girl looked.
The colours worked well in the image but the mise-en-scene within the image felt as if it was quite a busy image with a lot going on.

Filming

This slide show shows images of us as a group filming our music video.

Characters and Costuming

We decided that for our music video, we would only have 2 characters. A main character and a 'vampire' like character.
For these characters we then thought carefully about the costumes in which these characters should wear so that they represented exactly what they were without it being told straight away.

We therefore decided that our main character who was going to be 'living a nightmare' should be dressed in 'normal' type clothing such asa long shirt that could be used as a nightdress.

We also decided that our vampire should wear all black clothing as this would make them appear more mysterious which is what we want to show.

Gaining Copyright Permission

In order for us to use the track that we had chosen, we needed to write a permission letter to City Rockers, the current copyright holders and record label for this song.
Here is the email we sent to them, to which we am hoping to get a reply from soon.

Ideas For The Video

Once we had chosen our song and the location for our music video, we then brainstormed ideas that we could use that we felt would fit in well with the song theme and words.
To do still, we started off by printing off the song lyrics in which we then analysed so that we could think of other ideas that would fit in well with the lyrics.

We soon found that 'We felt the blood stop' was a common phrase within the song that was very repetitive. We therefore thought of an idea where we could include some type of blood liquid within the video, maybe with the character 'drinking' it out of a champagne glass or with bloody tears coming down from their face. We thought this would fit in well within the theme.

Another idea that we came up with was that our main character could be running from something, maybe running away from her own nightmare. We felt that a dark but well lit alleyway would capture the moods and feeling that we want to portray within this shot as we would want it to feel as if the main character was scared and feeling all alone.

Our main character we decided would look as if they have been possessed by a spirit to which all these weird and scary things would happen to them. However, this would all be shown in the 'nightmare' and therefore she would just be thinking about it.

We also decided we would feature a vampire type character that would appear to haunt the main character. This would add even more emphasis to the scary vibe in which we want to create and achieve.

Main Location

Originally, before deciding on the song, us girls decided how we would like to film and base our music video in London because we liked the scenery that it has to offer. We liked the idea of travelling around London showing some of the different buildings and architecture it had to offer, as well as the vast majority of different people. We also felt that London reflected our cultures well too.
However, after we eventually chose the song that we were going to use, we realised how setting our music video within the heart of London wouldn't make much sense.

We then decided as a group with the help of our teacher that as our video was going to be based around vampires and living in a nightmare, we could use a graveyard as the base location for our music video. This will add emphasis to the 'scary'
atmosphere in which we are hoping
to create.

St Michaels Graveyard, Wilmington

This is the local graveyard in which we have decided we will use.

It particularly caught all of our eyes as it featured many old gravestones that we could use for emphasis in our 'spooky' theme within the music video.

This is a pathway within the graveyard that we plan on using. We are considering using still shots of the main character and vampire, however these still shots would move so that the characters will be in different places.
